A Hawaiian hideaway with unobstructed views overlooking Maunalua Bay and with the iconic Diamond Head in the distance, Hanapepe house is not only nestled along the coastline, but also has private shoreline access, so you can walk right up to the water line. Located in the upscale community of Portlock on the south shore of O’ahu, this four bedroom, four bathroom home boasts a pool, BBQ area, and a wrap-around lanai with stunning views. While this home offers the utmost in privacy, you are also near some of the island’s best beaches and hikes, and in close proximity to two shopping centers that have everything you’ll need for the ultimate island vacation.
The brightly lit grand entryway under vaulted ceilings leads directly into the living room, and with three separate seating areas, you have multiple locations from which you can enjoy the ocean and mountain views through an entire wall of windows. The adjacent dining room is situated in a corner where ocean, mountain, and garden views surround you as you enjoy your meals. For enhanced privacy, the dining room can be closed off from the living room with sliding divider doors. The dining room flows into the modern gray and white kitchen, with a gas cooktop and lots of cabinets stocked with everything you need to prepare a meal. Have coffee in the charming kitchen seating area overlooking the garden, and open up the doors to let in some of the crisp morning air. You’ll find a bar as you make your way back into the living room from the kitchen, perfect if you plan to entertain. The wrap-around lanai can be accessed from the living room, dining room, and the primary bedroom, and leads around the side of the home to the courtyard where you’ll find the pool and the BBQ area, which includes an awning for warmer days. Watch the boats and kayakers passing by, and if you’re visiting during the winter months, you may be able to spot whales spouting or breaching in the distance.
The king-size bed in the primary bedroom faces out toward the lanai, and the bay and mountains beyond. The truly impressive en suite includes both a large walk-in shower, as well as a freestanding soaking tub, both of which have views of the coastline. The three guest bedrooms all include queen-size beds, a view of either the pool or the garden, and split air conditioning units to keep you cool. One of the guest bedrooms has its own private ensuite with a walk-in shower, while the other two bedrooms share a hallway bathroom with a modern shower/tub combo. The home also has two additional powder rooms.
Portlock is only minutes from one of the island’s most popular tourist attractions, Hanauma Bay. Not only is the bay itself picturesque, but you’ll also get to learn about the bay during a short presentation before experiencing the marine life as you snorkel its waters. Sandy Beach is a short, scenic drive away, and a fun place to watch the locals boogie board or to wade into the nearby tide pools to see if you can find sea urchins or sea cucumbers. Makapu’u Lighthouse Trail is popular with both visitors and locals alike, where a paved path leads you along the coastline where the deep blue water is omnipresent and whales love to hang out offshore during the winter months. For those who love a challenge, hike steep Koko Head Crater, where you’ll climb over old railroad tracks to the top, with a rewarding 360 degree view when you get there. After a long day of exploration, stop at either Hawaii Kai Town Center or Koko Marina to pick up groceries for dinner at Costco, or to pick up a meal at one of the many restaurants, conveniently located just a few minutes drive from the incomparable Hanapepe House.
